Need a change? Ask a business broker.

What is a business Broker?
In the South African context, a Business Broker is a Registered Property Practitioner that specializes in selling businesses. While they must be registered as a property practitioner, it is a specialized role. They are, in fact, trained professionals who help people buy and sell businesses.
Business brokers can have a variety of backgrounds including, real estate, accounting, legal, mergers and acquisitions or sales. Once they are practicing business brokers, they need to comply with the registration and training requirements of the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA).
What is the benefit of using a business broker?
Confidentiality: Much like buying a home through a real estate agent, selling a business through a Business Broker can have many benefits. The most important benefit is the ability of the broker to keep the sale confidential. Business interests are sensitive and to protect them, it is wise to use the services of a third party.
Network of Professionals: Brokers have a network of professionals that can further assist with making the process smooth including financing, accountants, attorneys and marketing tools that maintain confidentiality.
Ease the burden for the seller: Selling a business is a lot of work. The seller will need to prepare certain documents for presentation. The services of the seller’s accountant or attorney may be required too in order to present the business accurately. The broker will guide the seller as to what needs to be provided. The seller can get back to running their business and let the broker do the legwork from there until it’s time to start the sale process.
The business broker will efficiently match qualified buyers to businesses for sale. Once buyers are interested in the business, the broker will present the business in a way that makes sense to the buyer and also protects the confidentiality of the seller. The broker will guide the buyer and seller all through the process. The experience of a good broker can make a business sale much easier, faster and reduce some of the risk involved for all parties.
